Elimbah is semi-rural acreage just north of Caboolture, the sort of place where the driveway is longer than most suburban streets and the Glass House Mountains sit on the horizon behind the back fence. Blocks are large, houses are set well back, and most properties run on rainwater tanks with on-site wastewater treatment rather than a reticulated connection. The pools here tend to be generous, because there was room for a generous pool, and they are the centre of the backyard in a way that a small suburban pool never is.
All of that makes renovating one straightforward in some ways and genuinely more complicated in others. Machine access is usually excellent. The water is the problem.
We connect you with experienced, insured renovators who work Elimbah acreage and plan the water side of the job before anything is drained.
Draining and refilling on tank water
This is the question that should be settled first. A full-size pool can hold considerably more water than a household tank system carries, so refilling from your own storage is rarely realistic and is a poor idea heading into a dry spring. Most owners here cart water in, and the carter needs booking alongside the renovation rather than after it. On the other end, draining has to be handled in line with the local water authority's requirements. Properties on the reticulated network in this region are served by Unitywater, though many Elimbah blocks are not connected at all, and on those the drain-down is managed on the property, well away from the on-site wastewater system and never to street stormwater.
Long driveways, but good access once you are there
A 200 metre gravel driveway sounds like an obstacle and usually is not. Trucks and machines can generally get right to the pool, which removes the hand-barrowing that drives up cost on tight suburban blocks. What a long driveway does affect is wet weather, because soft ground can stop a loaded truck. Build some flexibility into the dates.
Tank water chemistry after the refill
Rainwater is soft and low in minerals, which is not automatically ideal for a new interior. A fresh surface needs the water balanced carefully in the first weeks, and soft water left unbalanced can draw minerals out of a new finish. Ask the renovator for a written start-up plan rather than being handed the keys and a bucket of chlorine. See resurfacing and equipment upgrades.
Frequently asked questions
Can I empty my tanks to refill the pool?
It is almost never the right call. Cart water in and keep the tanks for the house. Price the carted water as part of the renovation.
Does acreage access make the job cheaper?
It can. Being able to bring plant to the pool removes a lot of manual handling, which often offsets the travel component in a quote.
How soon can I swim after a new interior?
It depends on the finish, and the start-up period matters more than the swim date. Follow the renovator's water balancing schedule closely, especially on soft tank water. The cost guide covers what a full job involves.
